The World's First Self Supporting Violin

The Viper is designed to support itself, so your body doesn’t have to.

Our patented self-support system allows the instrument to hang freely from the shoulder, eliminating the need for a traditional shoulder rest or constant clamping between the neck and jaw. Every Viper includes a custom strap and adjustable support arm, carefully balanced to distribute weight naturally and comfortably.

Precision Frets for Perfect Playing

Every Viper fingerboard is engineered for precision, because how a violin feels is just as important as how it sounds.

Our fretted Vipers feature low-profile precision frets, set at carefully reduced crown heights to provide effortless intonation without getting in the way of expressive playing. The result is a fast, fluid feel that supports everything from clean articulation to aggressive electric techniques, without compromising player comfort.

The Best Sounding Electric Violins

We offer two world-class pickup options, Fortevio and Barbera, each crafted with solid maple construction to deliver a natural, powerful signal that translates the full character of the instrument. No onboard preamp required.

Both systems are engineered to produce a balanced, even response across all strings, preserving clarity in the low end while maintaining articulation and brilliance on the upper strings. Whether you’re playing clean, heavily processed, or somewhere in between, the sound remains focused, musical, and unmistakably alive.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between the Viper Classic and Viper PRO?

The Viper Classic is the essential Viper experience, designed as a streamlined, ready-to-play electric violin with 4-5-string fretless configuration. It’s ideal for players transitioning into electric or looking for a simple, stage-ready setup.

The Viper PRO expands on that foundation with extended-range 4–7 string options, fretted and fretless fingerboards, and upgraded components. Each PRO is handcrafted in Cleveland, Ohio and built for players who want greater control, customization, and performance capability.

All you need to know about Viper configurations here.

Do I hold the Viper under the chin like a standard violin?

Unlike a traditional violin, the Viper is fully self-supporting. Using the included strap and adjustable support arm, the instrument hangs naturally from the shoulder, eliminating the need to clamp it between your chin, neck, and shoulder.

This design allows for tension-free playing, increased mobility, and a more open, natural posture, especially during long sessions or high-energy performances. Your head, neck, and shoulders remain relaxed, and your hands are free to move without compensating for balance or support.

Once adjusted, the Viper feels stable and effortless—letting you focus entirely on playing, not holding the instrument in place.

What is the difference between Frets, and Phantom Frets?

Fretted and Phantom Frets offer two different approaches to control and feel, depending on how you like to play.

Fretted Vipers use low-profile precision frets that provide clear, consistent intonation across the fingerboard. They’re ideal for players who want maximum accuracy, fast articulation, and confidence when playing complex passages, extended-range instruments, or high-gain electric styles.

Phantom Frets are unique to the Viper. Instead of raised frets, they use subtle, low-profile reference markers embedded into the fingerboard. These give you the visual and tactile guidance of frets, while preserving the smooth feel and expressive freedom of a fretless instrument.

How are the extended range Vipers tuned?

Extended-range Vipers are tuned in standard fifths, just like a traditional violin.

Each additional string extends the range downward, maintaining familiar intervals so the instrument feels intuitive from the first note. This keeps fingering logic consistent while giving you access to a wider tonal range.

Common tunings include: (low to high)

  • 5-string: C–G–D–A–E
  • 6-string: F–C–G–D–A–E
  • 7-string: B♭–F–C–G–D–A–E

Because the tuning remains consistent, transitioning from a 4-string violin to an extended-range Viper feels natural, just with more range, more depth, and more creative flexibility.
