Joe Deninzon

Joe Deninzon is a violinist, vocalist, composer, and educator known for his work at the intersection of rock, jazz, and classical music. He is currently a member of the legendary rock band Kansas, where he performs as a violinist, rhythm guitarist, and vocalist.

In addition to his work with Kansas, Joe is the lead singer and violinist for the progressive rock band Stratospheerius. His career spans extensive touring, recording, and collaboration across genres, with performances alongside artists including The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Smokey Robinson, and Les Paul.

Joe performs on a 7-string fretted Viper, using its extended range and versatility to support both melodic and rhythmic roles on stage.

“As a violinist and vocalist who likes to do both simultaneously, the Viper is the answer. The harness system gives me complete freedom to sing and play, and the 7 strings allow me to cover a much wider range on stage.”

His approach reflects a broader vision for the instrument, one that moves beyond traditional roles and into a more integrated position within modern band settings.

Beyond performance, Joe is an active educator and author. He has taught internationally, contributed to leading music publications, and authored Plugging In, a widely used resource for electric string players. His work continues to influence both performers and students exploring contemporary approaches to the violin.
